Hi Brandon,
AFAIK, there are several solutions to sync the medias of your phone with your local computer. Did you tried
- DoubleTwist http://bit.ly/8rbnPJ
- The Missing Sync http://bit.ly/6MmFpY
- Sugar Sync (thought the cloud) http://bit.ly/7TxKFS
As your Droid is recognized as a mass storage on your computer, you can use any app that sync files like Windows Media Player

For me the Droid camera has been a huge point of frustration. I now have the 2.0.1 update and it made little difference as far as the camera goes. The issue I have is with the grainy quality of photos when you look at them on a desktop monitor. On the phone itself they look fine, but look at them on a normal monitor and the grain effect is overwhelming in a lot of cases.

Do you not see this effect with yours? I bought my Droid on the day it was released and was wondering if I got an early rev that is a dud. I started a thread on the Motorola Droid forum (http://tinyurl.com/y9aja4t) and have been getting a mixture of responses. Many people agree that the quality is bad, others think I'm expecting too much from a phone camera.

Bored SysAdmin -

Sorry if I wasn't clear. It isn't really sync'ing that is the problem. I hate iTunes as well :P But having a local sync solution allows them to do things like file size / type conversions for images and other media, as well as generate thumbnails and such.

The upshot of this is that the media experience on the device *sucks*. Copying media to the SD card is the easy part. Once its there, the apps are awful, especially the built-in photos one and the video players I've tried.

I blame this largely on the lack of a sync conduit which can do the hard work of scaling the images and videos down to a manageable size, creating an index and thumbnails, etc.

Brett - Are you talking about before the latest update which fixed the busted camera app?

I'm not saying it's a great *camera* - but the iPhone one was useless in the dark, which was a major pain. This one is actually quite good as cell phone cameras go.

I bought the DROID on opening day. You're right about a few things - it is definitely more 'geeky' and perhaps not as user friendly - not to folks who have been using the iPhone and other such Smart phones for a while.

But, as this is my first real smart phone (my last phone, just as an example, was the Samsung Alias) I have to say that I am thoroughly enjoying the Google cloud experience far more than I have ever on my computer.

There are some places that it needs some work - the camera issues have been resolved for me with the latest firmware update (2.0.1), and though it is a 5 MP camera, I still prefer my Panasonic DMC-FS25 (12 MP with a lot more features).

Primarily, though, the connectivity I have with the Google experience leaves me thrilled - being a navigation device as well as a night time alarm takes the phone in all sorts of places that I would never have expected a phone to go.

The best part, though, is that this is not a crippled OS like VZW likes to do with most of their phones. That was the selling factor for me. Otherwise, I, to, would probably have gone with an HTC model with an older OS but with their SenseUI.

I suppose I am the Frank Lloyd Wright of phone users - form follows function. If I wanted glitz, I'd not worry about functionality - but your reports (and many ,many others, including my sister) confirmed that AT&T was not for me.

Do you really think the camera is better than iPhone? I find the camera to take horrible quality photos. They are OK when viewed on the phone itself, but if you move them to a PC and view on a reasonable sized screen they are pixelated worse than I could even imagine. My 5 year old cheapo point&shoot camera takes MUCH better photos.

Granted we can't expect too much from a phone camera but I find Droids to be nearly worthless if you expect to move photos off the phone.

You Know, iTunes - is love/hate thing - somehow it always works slow on any windows machines (fine on macs), crippled sync if it thinks its new library, forces you to wipe the iphone :(
Imho 100% wireless sync is a major step up. Since switching Blackberry from desktop sync to wireless BES sync - it always works 100 times better and more reliably.
I think - I'd ok with manually managing my music collection and I sure devs will eventually write a better media manager/player for the anderoid.

Nice review. I recently bought an HTC Hero on the Sprint network. Excellent in my area - no dropped calls. Only issue is it's at Android OS V1.5. Upgrading to V2.0 next quarter.
