“Mission Accomplished” in review

by Brandon on May 2nd, 2007

Check out Keith’s latest look back on the years since “Mission Accomplished” was declared in Iraq.

Meanwhile, despite years of “progress” and being just about to “turn a corner,” it looks like the President is set to veto the bill passed by the House and the Senate to support our troops with funding and a plan for phased redeployment and withdrawal.  No wonder election coverage has started so ridiculously early… the country has become desperate to get rid of this guy.

If you actually listened to or read his speech you will see that he never stated that the mission was accomplished. Here’s an excerpt

“We have difficult work to do in Iraq. We’re bringing order to parts of that country that remain dangerous. We’re pursuing and finding leaders of the old regime who will be held to account for their crimes. We’ve begun the search for hidden chemical and biological weapons, and already know of hundreds of sites that will be investigated.
We are helping to rebuild Iraq where the dictator built palaces for himself instead of hospitals and schools.
And we will stand with the new leaders of Iraq as they establish a government of, by and for the Iraqi people.
The transition from dictatorship to democracy will take time, but it is worth every effort. Our coalition will stay until our work is done and then we will leave and we will leave behind a free Iraq.”…

For those of you who care to actually think for yourselves it may be a good idea to learn the subject of your propaganda before you repeat it.

Brandon, since you shockingly feel as though Fox News is not a valid news source here’s a link to CNN with the transcript: http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/05/01/bush.transcript

Talk about spin: “…by the House and the Senate to support our troops with funding and a plan for phased redeployment and withdrawal.” could you please let me know where in the US Constitution the House and Senate are given command and control authority of the military? They have only one option in their authority and it is to cut off funding… and as Senate Leader Harry Reid has declared this war lost, shouldn’t he do the responsible thing and cut off funding and bring our troops home?
This all sounds too familiar… Appeasement, isolationism, and moral ambiguity.

I’ll quote my favorite President: “It isn’t that Liberals are ignorant. It’s just that they know so much that isn’t so.” – Ronald Reagan

Keep it up… you’re making the Republicans look better every day… and that is not an easy thing to do these days!
