Campaigning from the gutter

by Brandon on September 10th, 2008

McCain’s people must be getting really desperate.  The American people are smarter than this.  You can’t lie about what somebody said in the age of the internet where transcripts and video recordings are readily available.  And please… you don’t get points for the irony in attacking Obama for “smearing” Governor Palin using completely and undeniably out-of-context quotations.  For reference, this is the quote that McCain’s ad says attack Governor Palin in a sexist manner.

“John McCain says he’s about change too, and so I guess his whole angle is, ‘Watch out George Bush — except for economic policy, health care policy, tax policy, education policy, foreign policy and Karl Rove-style politics — we’re really going to shake things up in Washington,'” he said.

“That’s not change. That’s just calling something the same thing something different. You know you can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig. You know you can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change, it’s still going to stink after eight years. We’ve had enough of the same old thing.”

How you go from that to a “sexist” attack on Governor Palin is pretty mind-blowing, even for the McCain smear-mongers.

  1. sorry but tthe quote came from Mr. Obama himself when he refered to Governor Palin as lipstick on a pig. check the quote, it got a huge response from the people Senator Obama was speaking to. In fact the quote from Mr. Obama has gotten a huge reaction from his party that it wasn’t a sexism comment, although if you listen to the tape it seems everyone understood exactly what he said and meant.

  2. Huh? I put the entire quote into the post. There is CLEARLY no association to Palin. If you have evidence of a video or transcript where Obama made such an association, please do provide it, instead of being spoonfed out-of-context quotations from the RNC.

Isn’t “lipstick on a pig” a phrase first used by McCain about a year ago? Odd how the GOPers didn’t pick up on that.

  4. In this current campaign the quote from Governor Palin was “what is the difference between hockey mom and a pig” or something like that and the answer was lipstick. Then if you listen to the audio of the speech in PA the audience alughes when Senator Obama uses the line.
Draw your own opionions on it.

  5. Brandon,

I understand that this is your personal blog, but I’m sure most people who subscribe did so because of your technical posts.

I bet there are many in your audience that have differing opinions than you. To me, your continued snide remarks are a complete turn off. You probably could care less, which is certainly your right. However, it seems that it would be a waste to offend readers who are interested in your work, but don’t share your ideology.

If you have an “everything but politics” feed, I’d be happy to switch. Otherwise, I may have to consider unsubscribing at least until after the election.

    Sincerely,
    Kiliman

    Kiliman,

Dont blame Brandon for posting the facts.

The GOP is blowing something way out of proportion to get a sensationalist reaction just in time for the election.
